Collective reparation returns meeting places to indigenous communities in Colombian Darien

The Milking yard benefits 25 families, for a total of 112 people, who make up Pescadito reservation of the Embera Dobida ethnic group.

The subject of collective reparation, Pescadito indigenous reservation, located in Acandí (Chocó), completed the construction of a community farm, through collective reparation, as part of the recovery of ancestral strengthening spaces where their traditions and practices are recovered.

Through the implementation of this measure, agreed in the Collective Reparation Plan, this indigenous reservation culminated the construction of the community farm that contributes to the recovery of their customs and traditions.

Now, the shelter has a large space, designed according to their needs and traditions and built through the use of native materials, such as wood, and the active participation of community members.

In this regard, the governor of Pescadito reservation, Jorge Chamarra, stated that “we are grateful to the Unit for collective reparation, we are happy with the construction of the dairy, it was a job of the members of the reservation and the people of the community, who are happy because it was very beautiful and for the cultural activities that we are going to be able to do in that place”.

The dairy farm benefits 25 families, for a total of 112 people, who make up the reservation.

This ethnic collective reparation subject is located in the Colombian Darien region in the southern area on the banks of Tolo River and belongs to Embera Dobida ethnic group.

“This drum is the product of the effort of this group and of the permanent accompaniment that has been carried out from the institutional framework despite the restrictions caused by the pandemic; the challenge is to achieve compliance with the other restitution, satisfaction and reparation measures contemplated in the Collective Reparation Plan”, said Elizabeth Granada Ríos, director of the Unit for Victims of Urabá-Darién territory.

With this Pescadito farm, there are already three milking yards built in the different ethnic groups such as Cuti reservation, and the farm in Tanela reservation group, both located in the municipality of Unguía (Chocó), all of them, through a process of collective reparation that bets on the restoration of these meeting places and ancestral connection.

The community contributed the labor for the construction and were also, on their own initiative, the logistics operators in the sale of the wood used for the construction of the farm, thus supporting the local economy and strengthening the leadership, and the political organization of the authorities of the reservation.

Through the delivery of the materials, including wood and skilled labor, necessary for its construction, represented in more than $ 30 million, the revitalization of cultural practices and policies of Embera people is promoted.
