Economic reparation continues to reach the victims of the Colombian armed conflict in the department of Tolima despite restrictions due to adverse circumstances in the context of the health emergency.
Following the biosecurity protocols and the self-care measures generated by the isolation, the Unit paid compensation for $ 653 million to 115 victims in the region.
Héctor González, leader and human rights defender who claims to have been displaced twice by groups outside the law, stated that he is very grateful to the Unit and highlighted the attention provided throughout its process, “I do have to tell the truth, I have received my humanitarian aid and now thanks to the Lord I am receiving compensation; It was a long process but I thank the Unit because it complied with me”, he specified.
In this department, the resources for economic reparation during the six months that the pandemic has lasted have exceeded $15.000 million, compensating about 2.100 people affected by the conflict and residing in the 47 municipalities of Tolima. In Ibagué, a municipality with an official registry of 56.000 victims subject to care, $ 5.000 million have been paid for the monetary compensation of 750 victims.
“I live here in Ibagué, and the money they paid me I will use to improve my home and I thank the Victims Unit because I really needed this money in this difficult time”, said Hilda Hernández, compensated victim.
On this occasion, the majority of the beneficiaries were from the route prioritized through resolution 1049 of 2011, that is; older than 74 years of age, with a disability or with an orphan disease, ruinous, catastrophic or high cost.
