In a day at Jaime Isaza Cadavid Polytechnic, in Medellin, 796 people over 74 years of age, with disabilities or serious or high-cost illnesses, received financial compensation as part of the integral reparation.
Victims benefited were those who were prioritized to receive compensation in accordance with Resolution 1049 of 2019, also received guidance for the investment of resources so that they can promote new projects or improve their living conditions.
The persons who received the compensation suffered violent acts such as forced displacement, homicide and forced disappearance of relatives, kidnappings and injuries due to attacks by illegal armed groups.
According the director of the Unit for Comprehensive Care and Reparation for Victims in Antioquia, Wilson Córdoba Mena, “these people are part of the more than 2 thousand victims that between the last week of June and the month of July benefit from this reparatory measure, with accompaniment for the adequate investment of these public resources “.
The official recalled that “Antioquia is the region with the most victims, but also where most have been repaired with the different measures of reparation, such as the restitution, rehabilitation, satisfaction, compensation and guarantees of non-repetition, aiming at the restoration of rights and supporting their undertakings so that they can re-establish their life project “.
Adequate and anti-fraud investment
The majority of the compensated persons stated that they will allocate the money from compensation to housing, strengthening of productive projects, saving, and taking care of the elderly.
“The money that we receive today, we want to invest it in something that helps us to start over, be it a house or a lot or for education,” said a displacement victim from Dabeiba , after receiving from the Unit for Victims the dignifying letter and the notification to collect the money.
The population benefited in this repair day was oriented to investment by institutions such as Colpensiones , SENA and the National Savings Fund in order to promote their access to housing, health, pensions and savings.
The officials of the Unit also made an anti-fraud talk to reiterate to the victims that the procedures before the entity are free and that any payment to processors should be avoided so as not to be scammed.
Between 2012 and 2019, the Unit for Attention and Integral Reparation for Victims has delivered nearly 990 thousand compensations to survivors of the armed conflict in Colombia (more than 236 thousand in Antioquia), with an investment of 6 billion pesos, of a total of 11.3 billion invested in the implementation of the Victims Law.
