The Director participated in the high school degree graduation ceremony of 121 senior citizens

Ramón Alberto Rodríguez Andrade, national director of Victims Unit, arrived in the municipality of Cartago, north of Valley, to clarify the concerns of armed conflict victims, give them peace of mind about the extension of the Victims Law and participate in the delivery of high school diplomas to 121 elderly people.

After being invited by the Departmental Bureau of Participation of Victims of Valle del Cauca, coordinated by Jesús Marino Corrales, the national director of Victims Unit, Ramón Rodríguez, shared with the population victim of armed conflict in various areas of the municipality of Cartago.

First of all, the national director enjoyed artistic presentations of singing, dance and theater, within the framework of the Workshops of Artistic and Cultural Training with Heart, a program of the Governance del Valle that benefited 360 children and adolescents in the municipalities of Cartago, Caicedonia and La Unión, during the current year.

Immediately after, Ramón Rodríguez attended the general assembly of the NUEVO AMANECER Foundation, in which he exchanged concepts on topics such as comprehensive reparation route, compensation, humanitarian aid, victim assistance, among others.

“I really want to congratulate you for the headquarters and above all for the organization that you have shown through the Foundation, all these artistic samples denote the strength they have in this part of the country; on behalf of the national government and the Victims Unit, just wait for work to improve the quality of life for you and all the victims in the country and abroad, “the official said.

The director of Unit took advantage of the event to explain the challenges that the entity will face in the year 2019: “We are working on the budget, of course we know that resources are scarce but we must prioritize, for example, humanitarian aid for those who they really need them; and be assured that we are already working, together with the Congress and of course the Government of President Duque, to look at how we can extend Law 1448 of 2011 and comply with all the victims we have in the Single Registry. “

One of the most moving moments of the activities of the Unit director in Cartago was his participation in the graduation ceremony of 121 elderly people as bachelors of EBENECER National Institute. It is a Christian entity that, together with NUEVO AMANECER Foundation, devotes most of its time to helping the victim population. Of the 121 graduates, 91 are victims of armed conflict, and some of them thought education was already an impossible issue for them.

“I want to thank the presence in Cartago of the National Director of Unit, who on the day of candles came from Bogota to join us in this activity so significant for all of us; We hope that we can really continue working hand in hand with the Foundation to take the processes forward and realize the projects we have to improve  people life quality, “argued Jesús Mario Corrales, coordinator of the Victims Bureau of Valle del Cauca and the municipality of Cartago.

During the meeting with the leaders, the director heard concerns from the tables of victims of Valle del Cauca, Cartago, Darién, Toro, Obando and even Circasia (Quindío).

On the prioritization of compensation to the tables of victims, Ramón Rodríguez replied: “We can only prioritize what the law allows us, those who were already waiting and have the documentation ready, obviously we will continue with the process and from then we will fight for some special cases of elderly people with terminal illnesses; we want to generate actions that really generate an impact on the population and that we all benefit, both the representatives and the victims in general. “

According to the data from the Planning Office of the Victims Unit, the victim population registered in Cartago amounts to 4,308 people for whom the national government has invested $6,042 million pesos, of which half has been for compensation to 370 people.
