La Gabarra received three coexistence and reconciliation spaces

In La Gabarra’s village, Tibu municipality in Norte de Santander, the Unit for the Victims delivered three projects that will strengthen spaces for reconciliation, coexistence, and peacebuilding; al this for the population affected by the armed conflict.

These actions answer the restitution and satisfaction measures carried out by the Unit for the Victims in this Subject’s Collective Reparation Process.

The recreation and culture area is made up of a public stage and an open-air gym, a sport venue that grants participation and integration to the population. Years ago, those places were marked by violence, but today, in thanks to the community and the international organizations support, “this place has been transformed. It contributes to the social fabric reconstruction of a population that suffered the armed conflict effects.” said Johanna Gelvez Ascanio, the Unit’s Director in Norte de Santander and Arauca.

Likewise, along the UN Multi-donor Fund for Peace Sustainability and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), the Unit delivered the photographic gallery and the History Museum’s virtual upgrade. This will dignify the victims’ memory in this area, which is part of the municipalities prioritized in the Peace Agreements with the execution of the Territorial Approach Development Programs (PDET in its Spanish acronym).

A visual and sound tour with special monitors is part of the photographic gallery. These upgrades show the pain, anguish, hopelessness, and uncertainty moments that hundreds of inhabitants suffered during the onslaught caused by groups outside the law.

“We hope the community takes advantage of these actions and make them their own. Hopefully this will help guaranteeing the damage non-repetition to La Gabarra’s Collective,” said the Government’s official.

The population shoed its gratitude for the investments: “This has been developed within the Collective Reparation Plan. We need these spaces in our village, which will allow us to improve our community with the public stage and the gym, so our children enjoy in a healthy way. We see the photo gallery as the memory that always remains in our minds and hearts, and today it is visible in the face of the invisible,” this was said by one of the women victims of violence.

The delivery was made with the Collective’s Promotion Committee and the community; the event was attended by the High Presidential Adviser for Stabilization and Consolidation, Emilio Archila, as well as departmental and municipal authorities.
