The President of the Republic, Iván Duque Márquez, will participate this Wednesday in the closing of the meeting of the Peacebuilding Commission of the United Nations Organization (UN), which will be held in Cartagena.
The closing of the event will take place, around 11:00 in the morning, at the Charleston Santa Teresa Hotel. The Head of State will be accompanied by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Claudia Blum.
The session will focus on the topic ‘Good financing practices for peacebuilding and strategic partnerships’.
Peacebuilding Commission
It should be noted that the Peacebuilding Commission (PBC) was established in 2005 as an advisory body of the member states of United Nations.
Its mandate is to support the efforts of both Member States and UN agencies and mechanisms to achieve sustainable peace in countries in conflict situations. It is an advisory body mainly of the Security Council and the General Assembly.
The PBC is composed of 31 Member States elected for (renewable) periods of two years. Additionally, the European Union, the IMF, the World Bank and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation participate in the meetings of the Commission, as well as the countries that are on its agenda (including so-called country configurations), namely: Guinea-Bissau, Sierra Leone, Liberia, Burundi, Central African Republic, Burkina Faso, Gambia and Sri Lanka, among others.
Launch of Anna Minería platform
Subsequently, at 4:00 p.m., in the Business City sector in Bogotá, the Head of State will attend the launch of the new environmental mining management platform, called Anna Minería, an initiative through which the National Government ratifies its commitment to the Escazú Agreement and the access of Colombians to environmental information.
Powered by the National Mining Agency, this tool is equivalent to the old Mining Cadastre in some of its functions, but it is a more complete platform, updated with the technological opportunities we have today and that allow us to better manage the country’s subsoil.
With Anna Minería, areas for exploitation cannot be awarded in prohibited mining sites or in places where environmentally it is not possible. Its implementation seeks to ensure and offer a transparent, public and modern service to the sector, facilitating the management of applications, procedures, granting, monitoring and control of mining titles. In an inclusive system and all people can access it.
The platform will allow to establish with precision the location of exploration and mining exploitation titles in process or preexisting. Oriented to the Sustainable Development Goals, it will allow urgent measures to reduce the loss of natural habitats and biodiversity that are part of the common heritage, as well as support mitigation and adaptation to climate change.
The President will attend the event in the company of the Minister of Mines and Energy, María Fernanda Suárez; the Vice Minister of Mines, Carolina Rojas Hayes, and the President of National Mining Agency (ANM), Silvana Habib Daza, among others.
