The Victims Unit, as an entity that is part of the social inclusion sector in the country, participated in the Advances and Challenges Forum on Social Inclusion, an initiative of the Department for Social Prosperity (DPS), headed by Karen Liliana Suárez, in the department of Caldas.
The main objective of the event was to show the progress of the entities to improve the quality of life of the people in the territory.
Social inclusion is a process that ensures that those less favored people have opportunities and the necessary resources to improve their quality of life, therefore, through processes such as the delivery of administrative compensation, it is achieved that the population that suffered the consequences of armed conflict, can return to exercise their citizenship and achieve opportunities by investing these resources in aspects such as: housing, higher education or individual productive projects.
“From our entity we seek to promote community and individual initiatives, aimed at the training of leaders, so that they can take an active part in public policy and influence the formulation of projects and Territorial Action Plans that improve the conditions in which they live in their territories”, said Laura Moreno in her speech.
According to statistical data from the National Information Network, the department of Caldas is home to 97.603 people who are victims of armed conflict, and in humanitarian assistance the Victims Unit has made 89.968 money transfers, which means an investment of 46.345 million pesos.
In terms of compensation, the Victims Unit has delivered 14.145 letters of compensation, which means an investment of just over 100.000 million pesos; On the occasion of the Social Inclusion Week, the entity delivered letters in the municipalities of La Victoria and La Dorada.
For her part, the director of the DPS in Caldas, Karen Suárez, indicated that “from the DPS we formulate, adopt, coordinate and execute public policies, plans, programs and projects in the field of social inclusion to attack poverty in the country, We serve the vulnerable population, childhood and adolescence and victims of armed conflict, designing a route to overcome poverty with the in order to minimize the number of 3.5 million Colombians who currently live in extreme poverty, we also made the delivery of different subsidies to close the inequality gap throughout the national territory.
In addition to the DPS and the Unit, entities such as the Ministry of Labor, the Government of Caldas, the Mayor’s Office of Manizales, the National Learning Service and the Colombian Family Welfare Institute also participated in the forum.
