Aníbal Antonio Ocampo viene de un Remolino Grande, como era conocido el municipio de Puerto Colombia, en Antioquia, un apacible poblado que le vio nacer junto con sus otros tres hermanos y de donde salió con su familia para Puerto Berrío buscando mejores oportunidades.
La vida le arrebataría el privilegio de ver cada día la sonrisa de su mamá, llevándolo a quedar huérfano siendo aún un niño y sin la posibilidad de conocer a su padre, pero los brazos de sus abuelos tratarían de suplir aquellas duras ausencias llevándolo por el camino de la bondad.
“Yo practicaba el atletismo y a nivel de deporte era muy sobresaliente en el colegio y a nivel departamental. Estuve en varias olimpiadas representando a Puerto Berrío. Conocí muchos lugares del país como Medellín, Segovia, Bogotá y donde hicieran juegos nacionales”, recuerda Aníbal con una sonrisa que lo transporta a su infancia.
“Cuando uno pierde una competencia, no es que se pierda, es que uno aprende más cosas para superar. La superación no es perder, es aprender”, explica cerrando el puño de su mano en señal de victoria. Esa lección la aprendió muy joven con 15 años cuando descubrió ese talento para el atletismo y, sin saberlo, esa premisa tendría mantenerla, ese “aprender a superar” una caída o una pérdida e ir aprendiendo cuáles serían las carreras que la vida le pondría en frente.
La carrera de obstáculos
Justo antes de cumplir los 18 años, lo llevaron a prestar servicio militar obligatorio interrumpiendo la intención de terminar sus estudios. “Cuando salí del servicio en el 82, los grupos armados me ofrecieron caminos con ellos, a prestar un servicio de violencia y todas esas cosas. Y yo me negaba porque venía de sufrir, no quería seguir sufriendo, quería superarme en mi trabajo, quería trabajar en una empresa, tener una vida más tranquila y, al contrario, la vida se me fue complicando cada día más”, recuerda.
Trabajó en diferentes oficios y en petroleras de la región, pero los atentados que sufrían los oleoductos no permitían trabajar tranquilo a ningún habitante de la zona, bien fuera porque quedaban desempleados o porque les quitaban la vida.
“Ahí fue cuando empecé a desplazarme a varios municipios de Antioquia. La vida me fue cambiando demasiado, estuve también en Segovia y ahí se me perdió un hermano mío hace años; esta es la hora que no me han dado ninguna razón”, Aníbal se refiere a uno de sus hermanos menores, Ruperto Antonio Ocampo, quien estaba bajo su cuidado.
“Por los enfrentamientos entre guerrilla, paramilitares y Gobierno y todo ese conflicto armado en Segovia hubo como 43 muertos y 52 heridos, y a mí eso me afectó mucho psicológicamente; tuve que desocupar el pueblo al otro día y tuve que salir huyendo en un bus para Medellín”, rememora mientras sus ojos se ven vidriosos por la melancolía. Sí, empezaba una carrera contra el tiempo para evitar que él fuera el siguiente en la lista, como ya se lo habían anunciado cuando corría el año 88.
Este hombre grande y con voz gruesa, deja ver un corazón entristecido por el hecho de que “se siente uno obligado a huir porque uno dejar el calor de sus padres, de la familia y no tener a nadie, eso es muy duro”.
El relevo connacional
Cuando el año 92 marcó el calendario y los pies de Aníbal ya habían recorrido varios kilómetros en Colombia, logró llegar a Costa Rica con una maleta llena de nostalgias, añoranzas y temor por repetir la historia que tantas caídas le causó.
“Me gustó en Costa Rica porque no hay Ejército, al no tenerlo, es un país que tiene mucha educación, tiene progreso y avance, es un país que cuida la juventud, cuida la vejez. Yo empecé mi vida muy diferente, hoy por hoy le doy gracias a que salí líder de las víctimas”, afirma con un tono más esperanzador porque “ya llevaba una parte de la universidad. ¿Qué es la universidad?, lo que usted aprende en la calle, esa es la verdadera universidad y lo que usted aprende en la calle tiene que ponerlo en práctica, no con droga, ni con violencia ni con sicariato, no más usted pone disciplina de su parte y las cosas salen adelante”, replica con voz firme y frente en alto.
Trabajando honestamente y demostrándole a los costarricenses que los colombianos trabajadores son más, con eso logró que lo acogieran como a otro hijo de esa hermosa patria, por lo que le permitieron trabajar en “el rebusque” como vendedor ambulante.
“Donde yo llegaba escuchaba la voz de un colombiano y hablábamos de la experiencia que habíamos tenido en, entonces yo les preguntaba por qué estaban por acá y me decían: por la guerra, por el desplazamiento forzado”. Fue entonces cuando él tomó la iniciativa para organizarse y encontrar la manera de unir fuerzas para luchar por sus derechos.
La inseguridad en el barrio los estaba azotando y Aníbal presentó un plan de seguridad a la comunidad, pero el temor de lograr una tranquilidad invadía a sus compatriotas vecinos. “No se preocupen por la plata, yo con la mentalidad y la bendición del señor me voy a poner a trabajar, no necesitamos armas. Ahí se fue montando la seguridad. Hoy por hoy lleva 25 años esa labor, y ha dado un fruto porque tenemos un sistema de cámaras”, dice.
Ese liderazgo lo llevó a ser elegido como uno de los representantes de las víctimas en el exterior por Costa Rica, donde ha podido ayudar a casi 2.000 personas que han vivido situaciones similares y que la violencia los llevó a radicarse lejos de su tierra natal. “Cuando me llaman las mismas embajadas me dicen: le reconocemos el trabajo que viene haciendo por las víctimas. Me gusta trabajar por las víctimas porque si usted va a trabajar por una comunidad solo, no saca nada, esto tiene que ser en equipo”.
Así como él, cada colombiano lucha y trabaja por dar lo mejor y conseguir sus sueños y, al cerrar los ojos, Aníbal no titubea al mencionar cuál es su más grande sueño: “Mi sueño sería ver a Colombia sin guerrilla. Si yo pudiera escribiría un libro con ese título, explicando por qué necesitamos un país en paz, Colombia es rica en todo y sé que los compatriotas que estamos en otro país al tiempo llegaremos a nuestra tierra”.
De esa manera, con mirada al horizonte y una sonrisa que ilumina su rostro, con esa nobleza que sobrepasa cualquier entendimiento y más cuando se ha vivido la crudeza de una guerra, él quiere demostrar que se puede curar un dolor que brota en el alma:
“Uno a veces piensa: lo dañado, ya ni modos, eso es solo críticas. Pero no, las cosas sí se pueden reparar y volver a arreglar. Eso es seguir adelante porque las críticas también son buenas. Si no hay crítica, no hay progreso, pero hay que superarse en muchas cosas porque Colombia tiene mucha tierra para ser”.

Screen reader and keyboard navigation
Our website implements the ARIA (Accessible Rich Internet Applications) attribute technique, along with several different behavior changes, to ensure that blind users who visit with screen readers can read, understand, and enjoy the features of the website. As soon as a user with a screen reader enters your site, they are immediately prompted to enter the screen reader profile so they can effectively navigate and operate your site. Here's how our website covers some of the most important screen reader requirements, along with console screenshots of code examples:
Screen Reader Optimization: We run a background process that learns website components from top to bottom, to ensure continued compliance even when the website is updated. In this process, we provide screen readers with meaningful data using the ARIA attribute set. For example, we provide accurate form tags; actionable icon descriptions (social media icons, search icons, cart icons, etc.); validation guide for form inputs; roles of elements such as buttons, menus, modal dialogs (popups), and others. In addition, the background process scans all images on the website and provides an accurate and meaningful description based on Image Object Recognition as an ALT (alternative text) tag for images that are not described. It will also extract texts that are embedded within the image, using an OCR (Optical Character Recognition) technology. To activate screen reader settings at any time, users just need to press the Alt+1 keyboard combination. Screen reader users also receive automated prompts to activate screen reader mode as soon as they enter the website.
These settings are compatible with all popular screen readers, including JAWS and NVDA.
Keyboard navigation optimization: The background process also adjusts the HTML of the website and adds various behaviors using JavaScript code to make the website work with the keyboard. This includes the ability to navigate the website using the Tab and Shift+Tab keys, operate dropdown menus with the arrow keys, close them with Esc, activate buttons and links using the Enter key, navigate between radio items and checkboxes using the arrow keys and complete them with the space bar or the Enter key. In addition, keyboard users will find quick navigation and content skip menus, available at any time by clicking Alt+1, or as the first site elements while navigating with the keyboard. The background process also handles triggered popups by moving keyboard focus to them as soon as they appear, and not allowing focus to drift away from it.
Users can also use shortcuts such as "M" (menus), "H" (headers), "F" (forms), "B" (buttons), and "G" (graphics) to jump to specific items.
Disability profiles accepted on our website
Epilepsy Safe Mode: This profile allows people with epilepsy to use the website safely by eliminating the risk of seizures resulting from flashing or flickering animations and risky color combinations.
Visually Impaired Mode: This mode adjusts the website for the comfort of visually impaired users such as impaired vision, tunnel vision, cataracts, glaucoma, and others.
Cognitive Impairment Mode – This mode provides different support options to help users with cognitive impairments such as dyslexia, autism, AVC, and others to focus on the essential elements of the website more easily.
ADHD Friendly Mode – This mode helps users with ADHD and neurodevelopmental disorders to read, navigate, and focus on the main elements of the website more easily, while significantly reducing distractions.
Blind Mode – This mode configures the website to be compatible with screen readers such as JAWS, NVDA, VoiceOver, and TalkBack. A screen reader is software for blind users that is installed on a computer and smartphone, and websites must be compatible with it.
Keyboard Navigation Profile (Motor Disability): This profile allows people with motor disabilities to operate the website using the Tab, Shift+Tab, and Enter keys on the keyboard. Users can also use shortcuts such as "M" (menus), "H" (headers), "F" (forms), "B" (buttons), and "G" (graphics) to jump to specific items.
Additional UI, layout, and readability tweaks
Font Settings: Users can increase and decrease its size, change its family (type), adjust spacing, alignment, line height, and more.
Color Settings: Users can select various color contrast profiles, such as light, dark, inverted, and monochrome. Additionally, users can swap title, text, and background color combinations, with more than 7 different color options.
Animations: Epileptic users can stop all running animations with the click of a button. Interface-driven animations include videos, GIFs, and flashing CSS transitions.
Content Highlighting – Users can choose to emphasize important elements like links and titles. They can also choose to highlight only focused or suspended items.
Audio Mute: Users with hearing aids may experience headaches or other issues due to autoplay of audio. This option allows users to mute the entire website instantly.
Cognitive disorders: We use a search engine that is linked to Wikipedia and Wiktionary, allowing people with cognitive disorders to decipher meanings of phrases, initials, slang, and others.
Additional features: We provide users with the option to change the color and size of the cursor, use a print mode, enable a virtual keyboard, and many other features.
Browser and assistive technology support
Our goal is to support the widest possible range of browsers and assistive technologies, so our users can choose the tools that work best for them, with as few limitations as possible. Therefore, we have worked very hard to be able to support all the major systems that comprise more than 95 % of the user market share, including Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Apple Safari, Opera and Microsoft Edge, JAWS and NVDA (readers). screen), for both Windows and MAC users.
