Así es la historia de María Angélica Olivera, hija de víctimas del conflicto, que busca sacar adelante a su familia a través de su carrera universitaria. Cuando los sueños vienen del corazón, ella sabe que la lucha es constante y no se puede dar paso al desfallecimiento.

De pequeña jugaba con los “chocoritos”, las muñecas y a las cuerdas en el parque, con su hermana, sus primitos y amigos. No era mucho de andar “callejeando” pero cuando estaba afuera, disfrutaba cada momento que la hacía feliz siempre y cuando el viento cálido los acompañara. Adentro no había lugar para tristezas, todo lo contrario, siempre estuvo lleno de paz y libros, muchos libros que la llevaban a viajar por los cuentos, las novelas, la poesía y todas aquellas hojas que la invitaban a volar con su imaginación.
Esos libros con los que María Angélica Olivera se enamoró de las letras incluyen “La increíble y triste historia de la cándida Eréndira y de su abuela desalmada”, “Doce cuentos peregrinos”, “El general en su laberinto”, y la cuenta sigue. Precisamente de este primero hubo una enseñanza que le retumbó en su mente: “A pesar de cualquier sufrimiento siempre voy a saber sobrellevarlo y salir de eso; no hay dolor que dure 100 años, no hay mal que dure 100 años ni cuerpo que lo resista”.
Ese poder de superación y resistencia lo aprendió por el ejemplo vivo de sus padres, tocados por la violencia que azotó a El Salado hace ya 20 años. “Es más un proceso interno de ellos de asumirlo y para seguir adelante. Yo no tengo recuerdos de eso porque tenía un año”, de ahí que ellos sean sus súper héroes y que ella se soporte en sus enseñanzas.
“Mis papás siempre han luchado por mí, ellos luchan, si no tienen, se lo buscan, a pesar de que no tienen muchos estudios, se esfuerzan por algo para que sea mío y dicen que yo debo luchar por lo mío. Siempre me dicen, tú puedes, vas para adelante. Eso me ha quedado en la cabeza”, afirma María Angélica.
Con un poco más de dos décadas encima, tiene como premisa “el respetar a los demás aprendiendo a escuchar”, y cómo aprender a escuchar a los demás si no se tienen esos momentos a solas con uno mismo, para escucharse, para meditar, para leer. Eso, leer, una de sus más grandes pasiones que surgió desde muy pequeña y fue puliendo con los años. “Yo nunca fui de las que compró el resumen del libro, no. Me gustaba leerme todo el libro. Fui creando ese hábito y ahora me ha tocado leer más que todo sentencias”. Si bien el cambio es un poco abrupto, para ella no lo es porque ya avanza en noveno semestre de Derecho.
Y, ¿Por qué estudiar Derecho? “Desde siempre cultivé el hábito de la lectura, estaba en un conflicto interno por cuál carrera me iba. A Ingeniería Civil me presenté, pero no pasé. Me inclinaba también por la Comunicación y en el preuniversitario me inculcaron mucho la lectura. Desde pequeña tenía un profesor que me decía que tenía talante para ser abogada”, y esto fue porque su profesor vio en ella la buena interpretación, el darse a entender su personalidad aguerrida. “Me di cuenta de que me gustaba mucho lo relacionado con el Derecho, las cosas a las que tengo derecho en todos los ámbitos. A raíz de lo vivido con mis padres en El Salado, me gustó la idea de saber y entender qué derechos tenemos”. Y precisamente es el Derecho Administrativo su fuerte, su interés principal, aunque se pelean ese espacio el Derecho Tributario y Laboral
Ella sería la primera en recibir un título como abogada en la familia en la Universidad de Cartagena. una prima suya le sigue sus pasos, pero no ha terminado.
María Angélica ha podido estudiar ya que es una de las beneficiarias del Fondo de Reparación para el Acceso, Permanencia y Graduación en Educación Superior para la población víctima del conflicto armado en Colombia, que lidera la Unidad para las Víctimas, por ello no duda en hablar de él: “Destaco del Fondo que me ha brindado la posibilidad de estudiar sin problemas. Desde primer semestre han cancelado todo, me brinda también un apoyo de emprendimiento. El Fondo ha sido una ayuda muy grande porque mis papás no tienen recursos para pagarme las carreras”.
Ella pertenece a un grupo de jóvenes que ayuda a otros jóvenes víctimas “y hay otro grupo que es de la Unidad en la universidad, en ambos he participado activamente”.
Las playas de Cartagena son su hogar desde que tenía cuatro años y han sido testigo de los suspiros cuando piensa y lucha por sus sueños: abrir su propio bufete de abogados con sus propios asociados, “mi propia marca de abogados especializados en distintas áreas del derecho”. Este sueño quedaría incompleto sino tuviese anhelos a nivel familiar: “Quiero brindarles a mis papás garantías y beneficios que no tuvieron en su juventud a raíz de la violencia, porque mi motor es el carácter que siempre he guardado de mí misma, de ser más y no menos, de querer sumar y no restar. Yo no me quedo esperando a que las cosas lleguen, sino que voy buscando algo para mis estudios y cada proyecto que emprendo”.
Admira profundamente a un profesor especialista en Derecho Administrativo, Néstor Osorio, un especialista respetado por sus conocimientos, su perfil, su misma historia de vida y cómo ha crecido profesionalmente. “Me parece un excelente profesional”, dice aquella joven que vende artículos de vestir para sustentar sus gastos y con orgullo lo hace.
En sus ratos libres acomoda sus horarios para el ejercicio, la lectura, deleitarse con la música, reunirse con sus amigos y asistir a la iglesia. Sabe que el camino es largo, pero no imposible y poco a poco va mejorando sus conocimientos, sus conversaciones y hasta ese bendito mal hábito de levantarse tarde en ocasiones. “Quiero cambiarlo. Cuando tengo un compromiso me levanto temprano, pero de resto, no lo hago y quiero cambiar eso”, reconoce entre risas.
Honra a su abuelo, aquel que siempre le ha enseñado con su ejemplo que se debe perseverar en la vida, porque “él todo se lo ha ganado con su sudor, ha trabajado muy duro y eso es lo que admiro mucho de él”. Ese mismo hombre que recuerda cómo su pequeñita jugaba en el parque con los “chocoritos”, las muñecas con su hermana, sus primitos y amigos.

Screen reader and keyboard navigation
Our website implements the ARIA (Accessible Rich Internet Applications) attribute technique, along with several different behavior changes, to ensure that blind users who visit with screen readers can read, understand, and enjoy the features of the website. As soon as a user with a screen reader enters your site, they are immediately prompted to enter the screen reader profile so they can effectively navigate and operate your site. Here's how our website covers some of the most important screen reader requirements, along with console screenshots of code examples:
Screen Reader Optimization: We run a background process that learns website components from top to bottom, to ensure continued compliance even when the website is updated. In this process, we provide screen readers with meaningful data using the ARIA attribute set. For example, we provide accurate form tags; actionable icon descriptions (social media icons, search icons, cart icons, etc.); validation guide for form inputs; roles of elements such as buttons, menus, modal dialogs (popups), and others. In addition, the background process scans all images on the website and provides an accurate and meaningful description based on Image Object Recognition as an ALT (alternative text) tag for images that are not described. It will also extract texts that are embedded within the image, using an OCR (Optical Character Recognition) technology. To activate screen reader settings at any time, users just need to press the Alt+1 keyboard combination. Screen reader users also receive automated prompts to activate screen reader mode as soon as they enter the website.
These settings are compatible with all popular screen readers, including JAWS and NVDA.
Keyboard navigation optimization: The background process also adjusts the HTML of the website and adds various behaviors using JavaScript code to make the website work with the keyboard. This includes the ability to navigate the website using the Tab and Shift+Tab keys, operate dropdown menus with the arrow keys, close them with Esc, activate buttons and links using the Enter key, navigate between radio items and checkboxes using the arrow keys and complete them with the space bar or the Enter key. In addition, keyboard users will find quick navigation and content skip menus, available at any time by clicking Alt+1, or as the first site elements while navigating with the keyboard. The background process also handles triggered popups by moving keyboard focus to them as soon as they appear, and not allowing focus to drift away from it.
Users can also use shortcuts such as "M" (menus), "H" (headers), "F" (forms), "B" (buttons), and "G" (graphics) to jump to specific items.
Disability profiles accepted on our website
Epilepsy Safe Mode: This profile allows people with epilepsy to use the website safely by eliminating the risk of seizures resulting from flashing or flickering animations and risky color combinations.
Visually Impaired Mode: This mode adjusts the website for the comfort of visually impaired users such as impaired vision, tunnel vision, cataracts, glaucoma, and others.
Cognitive Impairment Mode – This mode provides different support options to help users with cognitive impairments such as dyslexia, autism, AVC, and others to focus on the essential elements of the website more easily.
ADHD Friendly Mode – This mode helps users with ADHD and neurodevelopmental disorders to read, navigate, and focus on the main elements of the website more easily, while significantly reducing distractions.
Blind Mode – This mode configures the website to be compatible with screen readers such as JAWS, NVDA, VoiceOver, and TalkBack. A screen reader is software for blind users that is installed on a computer and smartphone, and websites must be compatible with it.
Keyboard Navigation Profile (Motor Disability): This profile allows people with motor disabilities to operate the website using the Tab, Shift+Tab, and Enter keys on the keyboard. Users can also use shortcuts such as "M" (menus), "H" (headers), "F" (forms), "B" (buttons), and "G" (graphics) to jump to specific items.
Additional UI, layout, and readability tweaks
Font Settings: Users can increase and decrease its size, change its family (type), adjust spacing, alignment, line height, and more.
Color Settings: Users can select various color contrast profiles, such as light, dark, inverted, and monochrome. Additionally, users can swap title, text, and background color combinations, with more than 7 different color options.
Animations: Epileptic users can stop all running animations with the click of a button. Interface-driven animations include videos, GIFs, and flashing CSS transitions.
Content Highlighting – Users can choose to emphasize important elements like links and titles. They can also choose to highlight only focused or suspended items.
Audio Mute: Users with hearing aids may experience headaches or other issues due to autoplay of audio. This option allows users to mute the entire website instantly.
Cognitive disorders: We use a search engine that is linked to Wikipedia and Wiktionary, allowing people with cognitive disorders to decipher meanings of phrases, initials, slang, and others.
Additional features: We provide users with the option to change the color and size of the cursor, use a print mode, enable a virtual keyboard, and many other features.
Browser and assistive technology support
Our goal is to support the widest possible range of browsers and assistive technologies, so our users can choose the tools that work best for them, with as few limitations as possible. Therefore, we have worked very hard to be able to support all the major systems that comprise more than 95 % of the user market share, including Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Apple Safari, Opera and Microsoft Edge, JAWS and NVDA (readers). screen), for both Windows and MAC users.
