“A mi niña pequeña, que en ese momento tenía dos años, se le fue parte del cuero de la espalda y aún tiene las cicatrices. A mi otra hija, que tiene problemas de retraso mental, se le abrió la pierna y perdió tres dedos del pie izquierdo. A mí una esquirla me abrió la pierna, se me afectó la clavícula y la columna vertebral del mismo golpe que generó la onda explosiva. A mi hermana se le reventaron los oídos por la detonación”.
Esas son las palabras de Macaria Allín Chaverra, sobreviviente de la masacre de Bojayá sucedida el 2 de mayo de 2002.
Macaria nació allí, en el corregimiento La Loma. “A los 11 años, y después de la muerte de mi mamá, me fui con una tía para La Guajira y luego, como me había desconectado de mi núcleo familiar, me puse a buscarlos y me dijeron que estaban en Turbo (Urabá antioqueño). Allí llegué, me reencontré con mi papá y mis hermanos, conocí al padre de mis hijos, me casé, tuve a mis hijos y nos quedamos”, explica.
Cuando la guerra se agudizó en Turbo, el padre de Macaria se fue para Bellavista Viejo (antiguo casco urbano de Bojayá, donde ocurrió la masacre en 2002). “Él dejó la finca y todo lo que tenía. Eso era el año 86. Luego se vino el papá de mis hijos y, después de que ellos terminaron el colegio, nos vinimos para acá”, añade.
Macaria recuerda que en abril de 2002 había rumores de presencia de actores armados muy cerca del casco urbano de Bojayá y de que iba a ocurrir algo muy grave en la región.
El primero de mayo de 2002, muy temprano, sonaron algunos disparos. Cuando se supo que la guerrilla y los paramilitares estaban cerca del pueblo, los habitantes se refugiaron a la iglesia. “Ahí dormimos muchísima gente, cerca de 400 personas. El cien por ciento de los habitantes de mi barrio, Pueblo Nuevo, estaba allí. Y desde mi barrio la guerrilla disparaba hacia donde estaban los paramilitares, que estaban ubicados al pie de la iglesia”, dice Macaria.
El día transcurrió bajo mucha tensión: se escuchaban los disparos y los vecinos estaban muy preocupados. “Llegó la noche y la madrugada, y la gente ni durmió por el hacinamiento y por la misma angustia que se tenía. Yo estaba con mi hermana y dos de mis hijos”.
El 2 de mayo, después de las diez de la mañana, cuando los niños allí presentes consumían algo de comer que había ordenado el padre Antún Ramos, a dos metros de dónde se ubicaba estalló la pipeta dentro de la iglesia. La explosión despellejó parte de la espalda de su hija menor. Su otra hija, que sufre de retardo mental, perdió tres dedos del pie izquierdo y se le abrió la pierna. Macaria se vio afectada en la clavícula y la columna vertebral, y una esquirla le rajó la pierna, mientras que los oídos de su hermana se reventaron. Ellas fueron las únicas que sobrevivieron de un grupo de 30 personas que estaban juntas.
Sin perder tiempo, casi a manera de una procesión encabezada por el padre Antún, comenzaron a sacar los heridos hacia el municipio antioqueño de Vigía del Fuerte, que por su ubicación en la otra orilla del Atrato, justo enfrente, parecía un reflejo de Bojayá. “Entre ellos iba mi niña pequeña que, a pesar de sus heridas, se la entregué a una amiga para que la llevaran a Vigía. Al final de ese día nos quedamos siete heridos en la iglesia, y con la ayuda de Minelia, la ‘loquita’ del pueblo que sirvió de enfermera, logramos llegar a la casa cural donde pasamos la noche”, indica Macaria.
“Minelia nos ayudó mucho esa noche: nos daba agua, nos pasó cobijas que sacaba de las habitaciones de los padres y nos arropaba, porque justo esa madrugada llovió durísimo y había una ventisca muy fuerte. También barría toda esa agua-sangre para que no llegara hasta donde nosotros estábamos”.
Recuerda también que Minelia “‘ordenó’ a su manera los cuerpos amputados o destrozados. Ponía la cabeza de un niño con dos brazos izquierdos, torso de un adulto y con una pierna de una mujer con la de un hombre y así. Lo que ella quería, seguramente, era que quedaran los cuerpos enteros. De todos modos, ella nos ayudó mucho a los heridos que pasamos la noche ahí. Fue la noche más larga de mi vida, parecía que el tiempo se hubiese detenido”, señala.
Hacia las cinco de la mañana llegó un grupo de la guerrilla al que “yo le dije que no nos mataran, porque éramos civiles. También ayudaron revisando las heridas de los que estábamos ahí, y con las cobijas hicieron unas especies de hamacas y en bote nos llevaron a Vigía del Fuerte”.
Después de unos días, fue trasladada a Medellín, donde ya estaba su hija hospitalizada, porque la pierna se le estaba infectando. Tan pronto llegó Macaria la ingresaron a cirugía. Después de un mes regresaron a Bojayá, y se encontró con que su casa tenía un hueco en el piso y le faltaba el techo, producto de la explosión de algún artefacto durante los días de la masacre. Se dedicaron a arreglarla. Para ese momento había solo cinco familias en Bojayá; el resto estaba en Vigía o, en su gran mayoría, en Quibdó como desplazados.
Para septiembre de 2002 buena parte de los habitantes de Bojayá regresó desde Quibdó, y el gobierno de ese entonces propuso su traslado del pueblo, mudanza que finalmente se dio en 2006.
Así, la cabecera municipal de Bojayá quedó ubicada a un kilómetro arriba por el mismo costado del río y se llamó ‘Bellavista Nuevo’. “Como el gobierno dijo que no construía en zona de riesgo, por eso fue que trasladaron el municipio a una parte más alta, por aquello de evitar que se inundara en época de invierno. Sin embargo, había gente que estaba de acuerdo con el traslado y otras no. Yo destaco que ahora el pueblo no se inunda, pero sí prefería tener el río cerquita porque, por decir algo, dejaba unos plátanos fritando en bajo mientras iba al río, tiraba una cañita de pescar artesanal, y a los minutos ya lo estaba consumiendo. Ahora el río está algo retirado, y no es lo mismo”.
En el 2013 arrancaron los contactos entre la comunidad de Bojayá y la Unidad para las Víctimas con el fin de iniciar la medida de reparación colectiva, proceso que fue protocolizado en abril de 2018 y que en la actualidad se encuentra en la fase de implementación.
“Cuando las Farc vinieron a pedir perdón, en diciembre de 2015, yo hacía parte del comité organizador y de la logística del evento. Cuando los vi llegar tenía como rabia y odio, pero en la medida en que transcurría el evento, y para poder curarme de esa herida tan grande, pues me dije que tenía que perdonarlos porque si uno no perdona no consigue la paz. El escucharlos a ellos me sirvió para sacar todo ese odio que sentía porque me lo habían quitado todo en un segundo. Me vine de Urabá huyéndole a la guerra y acá de nuevo me la encuentro de frente y me lo quita todo”, agrega.
Hoy Macaria ayuda a criar a sus nietos, y aunque mantiene las cicatrices físicas de la explosión de la pipeta, ya sanó las heridas del alma: “Yo ya perdoné porque quien no perdona no vive en paz y su vida se le convierte en un infierno”.

Screen reader and keyboard navigation
Our website implements the ARIA (Accessible Rich Internet Applications) attribute technique, along with several different behavior changes, to ensure that blind users who visit with screen readers can read, understand, and enjoy the features of the website. As soon as a user with a screen reader enters your site, they are immediately prompted to enter the screen reader profile so they can effectively navigate and operate your site. Here's how our website covers some of the most important screen reader requirements, along with console screenshots of code examples:
Screen Reader Optimization: We run a background process that learns website components from top to bottom, to ensure continued compliance even when the website is updated. In this process, we provide screen readers with meaningful data using the ARIA attribute set. For example, we provide accurate form tags; actionable icon descriptions (social media icons, search icons, cart icons, etc.); validation guide for form inputs; roles of elements such as buttons, menus, modal dialogs (popups), and others. In addition, the background process scans all images on the website and provides an accurate and meaningful description based on Image Object Recognition as an ALT (alternative text) tag for images that are not described. It will also extract texts that are embedded within the image, using an OCR (Optical Character Recognition) technology. To activate screen reader settings at any time, users just need to press the Alt+1 keyboard combination. Screen reader users also receive automated prompts to activate screen reader mode as soon as they enter the website.
These settings are compatible with all popular screen readers, including JAWS and NVDA.
Keyboard navigation optimization: The background process also adjusts the HTML of the website and adds various behaviors using JavaScript code to make the website work with the keyboard. This includes the ability to navigate the website using the Tab and Shift+Tab keys, operate dropdown menus with the arrow keys, close them with Esc, activate buttons and links using the Enter key, navigate between radio items and checkboxes using the arrow keys and complete them with the space bar or the Enter key. In addition, keyboard users will find quick navigation and content skip menus, available at any time by clicking Alt+1, or as the first site elements while navigating with the keyboard. The background process also handles triggered popups by moving keyboard focus to them as soon as they appear, and not allowing focus to drift away from it.

Disability profiles accepted on our website
Epilepsy Safe Mode: This profile allows people with epilepsy to use the website safely by eliminating the risk of seizures resulting from flashing or flickering animations and risky color combinations.
Visually Impaired Mode: This mode adjusts the website for the comfort of visually impaired users such as impaired vision, tunnel vision, cataracts, glaucoma, and others.
Cognitive Impairment Mode – This mode provides different support options to help users with cognitive impairments such as dyslexia, autism, AVC, and others to focus on the essential elements of the website more easily.

Keyboard Navigation Profile (Motor Disability): This profile allows people with motor disabilities to operate the website using the Tab, Shift+Tab, and Enter keys on the keyboard. Users can also use shortcuts such as "M" (menus), "H" (headers), "F" (forms), "B" (buttons), and "G" (graphics) to jump to specific items.
Additional UI, layout, and readability tweaks
Font Settings: Users can increase and decrease its size, change its family (type), adjust spacing, alignment, line height, and more.
Color Settings: Users can select various color contrast profiles, such as light, dark, inverted, and monochrome. Additionally, users can swap title, text, and background color combinations, with more than 7 different color options.
Animations: Epileptic users can stop all running animations with the click of a button. Interface-driven animations include videos, GIFs, and flashing CSS transitions.
Content Highlighting – Users can choose to emphasize important elements like links and titles. They can also choose to highlight only focused or suspended items.
Audio Mute: Users with hearing aids may experience headaches or other issues due to autoplay of audio. This option allows users to mute the entire website instantly.
Cognitive disorders: We use a search engine that is linked to Wikipedia and Wiktionary, allowing people with cognitive disorders to decipher meanings of phrases, initials, slang, and others.
Additional features: We provide users with the option to change the color and size of the cursor, use a print mode, enable a virtual keyboard, and many other features.

Our goal is to support the widest possible range of browsers and assistive technologies, so our users can choose the tools that work best for them, with as few limitations as possible.
