The Unit for the Victims continues to train the Public Ministry

Along with the Magdalena Medio region, there are already seven departments where the preparation sessions have arrived for ombudsmen, defenders and procurators for the Participation Boards’ elections at all levels; to date, 606 officials have been trained.

Around 606 municipal and district ombudsmen, regional defenders, and regional procurators have been trained by advisers from the Unit for the Victims’ Participation Sub-directorate. This is part of a strategy to strengthen the technical capacities of the Public Ministry, in order to guarantee the registration process, conformation and installation of the Victim Participation Boards for 2021-2023.

These training sessions began on February 8th. The main goal is to reinforce knowledge around certain documents such as 2020’s 01668 Resolution, which regulates the Victims Effective Participation Protocol adjustments; as well as 2021’s, February 9th, 00066 Resolution, which clarifies the Participation Boards election period at all levels, as it follows:

“The Municipal, District, Departmental and National Boards elected in 2019 will end their period in 2021. Thus, the Municipal, District, Departmental and National Victims Effective Participation Boards for the last period of two (2) years between 2021-2023, will be chosen on the following dates:

1. The Municipal and District Victims Effective Participation Boards will be elected between August 20th and September 10th, 2021, for a period of two (2) years.

2. The Departmental Victims Effective Participation Boards and Bogota´s District Victims Effective Participation Board will be elected between September 20th and October 10th, 2021, for a period of two (2) years.

3. The National Victims Effective Participation Board will be elected between October 20th and November 10th, 2021, for a period of two (2) years.”

“These training sessions have allowed Public Ministry officials to improve their Victims Effective Participation Protocol knowledge. As well, this work has given them clarity and skills for the registration, election and installation of Participation Boards for the 2021-2023 period through a role-play election,” explained Yanny Zambrano Diaz, the Unit for the Victims’ Participation Sub-director.

So far, the training has been accomplished in Huila, Caqueta, Valle del Cauca, Atlantico, Nariño, Antioquia and Cundinamarca departments, as well as the Magdalena Medio region. The sessions will go until the first week of March.
