The Unit accompanied a forum on the situation of women, In La Virginia

On the occasion of the month on the “differential and gender focus of women”, the Mayor’s Office of La Virginia, in the department of Risaralda, held the virtual meeting to analyze the current conditions of women in the territory.

Laura Moreno Mejía, territorial director, and the Group of differential focus of the Victims Unit, participated in the forum for differential focus and gender women, organized by the municipal Administration of La Virginia, and of which the Secretary of Government was also part, the Municipal Office for Women, the Municipal Table for Victims, and the Directorate for Women and Gender Equity of Risaralda.

“The Colombian State recognizes that women have suffered disproportionate and differential impacts in the context of armed conflict, causing unequal power relations, finding that women are the main victims of sexual crimes, inequality, abuses and disproportionate negative impacts in acts of conflict; from the Unit we continue working so that these events are not repeated and we can make comprehensive reparations to the victims of situations that should never have happened”, said Laura Moreno.

This approach model implies the development of actions in missionary processes, in recognition of the effects and impact on the victims due to their age, gender, sexual orientation or disability, for which differentiated actions are required to guarantee effective access to the route of care, assistance and repair.

Other topics addressed in the forum, which were also attended by leaders of the victims, such as Luz Delia Tangarife, were recommendations for the formulation of projects that provide autonomy and economic empowerment of women, training for women’s organizations on the regulatory framework with relation to women’s rights and the implementation of assistance, care and reparation routes by territorial entities, taking into account the differential focus on women.

“Women constitute a fundamental factor in the social development of any territory due to their work capacity, managerial status, family and society building, which lead her to stand out and be the focus of all the programs promoted by the municipal administration, to enhance their capabilities and roles for the benefit of the community, from the women’s office we will continue to lead plans that highlight this leadership role of women in La Virginia”, concluded Grimanesa Restrepo, director of the Office for Women, Equity and Youth.
