Victims commemorated the International Day of Human Rights

With stories of their own lives, talks, and symbolic acts, the victims of the country commemorated the International Day of Human Rights in various forms, accompanied by the Victims Unit, when, in addition, they celebrate 70 years of the American Declaration of Rights and Duties of Man, signed in Bogotá in 1948.

Events commemorating the International Day of Human Rights were held in various regions of the country. In the General Archive of the Nation, in Bogotá, the Unit for Victims inaugurated the exhibition Bitácoras Viajeras, in which with 250 objects and stories the victims give an account of their experiences in 160 municipalities of the country.

In Cartagena, the Unit accompanied the events in the Nelson Mandela neighborhood, where children, accompanied by the National Ombudsman, Carlos Negret, read the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

In Viotá, municipality of Cundinamarca, the Unit participated in the discussion “Rights and role of women Victims of armed conflict and empowerment as a strategy for Women Producers and Replicators of Peace”, together with the municipal victims’ table and the municipal framework of the commemoration of the International Day of Human Rights.

In Guateque, Boyacá, the victims of armed conflict received a talk from the Unit for Victims on the route of their rights and resolved concerns related to Law 1448, international humanitarian law and human rights.

In the Boyacá municipality of Pajarito, 60 survivors commemorated the Day with a symbolic act and the socialization of a memory document.

In Medellín, Antioquia, and in Guaviare, several public events commemorating the International Human Rights Day were also held.

Tomorrow, in Valledupar, Cesar, in two acts that will be held simultaneously in the Luis Rodríguez Valera Auditorium and the María Concepción Loperena Plazoleta, the Unit and the Government will exalt 20 leaders, social leaders and authorities who fight for the defense of said rights, among them are representatives of civil and military authorities, leaders of blacks, of indigenous ethnic groups of the region, defenders of women, children and governor councils of indigenous reservations, among others.

In the Plazoleta María Concepción Lopera de la Gobernación the ‘Route of Promotion and Protection of Human Rights in Cesar’ will be developed, which consists of each participating institution socializing its institutional offer in the area of ​​human rights and services for people that they consider their rights violated and for the public in general.
