Three municipalities of Sucre are certified as territories free of antipersonnel mines

Corozal, Los Palmitos, Sincelejo are the municipalities of this department that now have the certification of territories free of antipersonnel mines, adding to Morroa that already had accreditation.

In Los Palmitos (Sucre) the certification event was held in three municipalities free of antipersonnel mines (Corozal, Los Palmitos, Sincelejo), which was chaired by the delegate of the High Commissioner for Peace, Marta Isabel Hurtado, and the objective was to restore the right to land to the inhabitants so that they can travel without fear of stepping on one of these devices.

According to the data provided by Hurtado, “in Sucre there is a history of 75 people between civilians and public force, victims of antipersonnel mines”. Likewise, she said that “after determining the release of suspicion of antipersonnel mines, the State gives free access to all actions with local and national authorities in order to generate sustainable development and a total appropriation of the countryside and its territories”.

For his part, the Territorial director of the Victims Unit, Isaac Hernández, said that “these types of acts are very important for the department since they are given a part of tranquility to people in terms of mine issues; from the Unit, we are still ready to continue attending and fulfilling the victims of armed conflict”.

The event was attended by the National Police, the Marine Corps, Prosecutor’s Office, Victims Unit, delegates of the contributing countries with this cause, and the mayors of Sincelejo and Corozal who were also given the certification that accredits them as territories free of antipersonnel mines.
