On a two-day day, in which a special recognition was made of the lives of Víctor Manuel Pérez and Raimundo Cárcamo, victims of forced disappearance and homicide, the Unit provided psychosocial support to the families of these people during the dignified delivery of the skeletal remains and accompanied the forensic and exhumation team of the Prosecutor’s Office.
The delivery of the remains was attended by 10 people: the wife and two children of Raimundo Cárcamo and the mother and 6 brothers of Víctor Manuel Pérez, who barely remembered him since they were very small when he did not return home since 1996, when he had 22 years old.
Mrs. María Eugenia Jaimes Meléndez, wife of Raimundo, shared her experience: “I am very grateful to God and to the Victims Unit for the activities we have had and for giving ourselves to our loved ones after such a long time. Just as they did with us, hopefully there is also the opportunity for many families who are waiting to see their loved ones”.
“This is a long and complicated process for the families of the victims, it is not easy to relive these facts and open wounds that were believed to be healed after so long. The important thing is to recover that loved one and have a place to rest in order to visit him, after years of ignoring his whereabouts”, said Gonzalo García, territorial director of the Unit for Victims in Santander.
This delivery was carried out at the facilities of the Attorney General’s Office in Santander, within the framework of the integral reparation of the 14,900 victims of forced disappearance and homicide in the department.
