A total of $ 754 million pesos issued by the Victims’ Unit allowed the economic reparation in Ibagué of 100 people who suffered the rigors of armed conflict and who now receive monetary compensation as part of the comprehensive reparation granted by the State.
During the day, the beneficiaries also received a letter of dignity and forgiveness for the events suffered, guidance on the appropriate investment of resources. “We want these monies to have a productive destination and it is for this reason that we continue to accompany them. Initially, our professionals have a talk with each one of them and then they present the offers for academic training, benefits in savings funds and other alternatives as options so that these resources do not become pocket money”, explained María José Dangond, Central Territorial director of the Victims Unit.
For her part, María Rosalba Huertas de Gutiérrez, a beneficiary from Libano municipality, stated that having access to this resource as an elderly person is a primary support for the improvement of her quality of life: “It is money that will allow me the sustenance since I cannot work, I have suffered violence from a very young age and that is why we celebrate that in our municipality we are finally living in peace”.
Similarly, Noel Vera Toro, a victim of the Natagaima municipality, expressed his gratitude to the Victims Unit and said that he was clear about how he was going to invest his compensation: “I am going to set up a store in the village where I live, where I went displaced in 2001, and in which we can now live in peace”.
During the month of November, the Unit has placed money orders worth $ 1.520 million pesos and compensated 224 victims of this department.
