Given the threats registered to victims of conflict in the department of Cauca, the Victims Unit offers information on a route for people who, in the framework of Decree 1066 of 2015, wish to request protection measures against this fact.
Through this route, the population is explained that initially they should approach the Department or municipal Government Secretariat, where prevention measures will be implemented. The local authorities will then guide you on the protection programs such as the Prevention and Protection Program of the National Protection Unit or the Victim and Witness Protection Program of Law 975 of 2005 on justice and peace.
The route to threats provides information for victims of conflict within the framework of Law 1448 of 2011, as well as to land claimants, leaders, representatives or activists of human rights organizations, journalists, civic, communal, peasants or belonging to ethnic groups , trade unionists, medical mission members, political and union leaders, among others.
“This information seeks to remind all people that at some time they may receive threats due to social leadership in their community, that there are protective measures for these events, for this reason from the territorial Cauca we inform the community that in our Centers of Attention to Victims, they will be able to claim this route where they will find the relevant data to know where to report or request protection measures”, said Dan Harry Sánchez Cobo, territorial director of the Victims Unit in Cauca.
According to the bulletin of Information System on Aggressions against Human Rights Defenders in Colombia of the “We are defenders” program, during the first quarter of 2019, the department of Cauca was the territory with the greatest risk to exercise or develop leadership and defense activities of human rights, since there were four murders, two attacks and 28 threats, especially in the north of the department.
Therefore, the territorial director of Unit said that “the records presented in the first quarter of the year in Cauca, oblige us as an entity of the National Government to continue implementing actions aimed at reducing these indexes and increasing service routes opportune for the victims”.
