1,409 victims have received their reparation compensation in Antioquia, this year

In total, the Victims’ Unit has provided economic compensation to 231,814 survivors of armed conflict in this region during the almost eight years of the implementation of the Victims Law.

With the delivery of 634 financial compensation in Medellín today, the 1,409 victims benefited with this measure of reparation are completed so far in 2019 in Antioquia, according to the prioritization that favors people over 74 years of age and to survivors with disabilities or terminal illnesses.

The Victims Unit delivered this financial compensation to people from 59 municipalities in Antioquia.

Pedro García, was one of the beneficiaries. According to his daughter, Luz Yaneth, “we are very happy that this resource comes today from the National Government, with this money my father will be able to repair his house to improve his living conditions in the municipality of Betulia”.

“We are displaced from Algeria, where we lost a brother. Today I came to Medellin to receive with my parents a resource with which they, due to their advanced age, can provide their support, and everything they need to be able to finish their last years of life in a dignified way, “said Rosalba Aguirre another of beneficiaries in this day.

For Wilson Córdoba, director of Victims Unit in Antioquia, “these survivors of conflict also benefit from other measures such as psychosocial care and receive guidance on the appropriate investment of the $ 5,265 million they receive in total this month as part of their comprehensive repair. To this end they are directed to allocate these resources for the purchase or improvement of housing, start or strengthening of productive projects, savings and higher education.

The official also said that “Antioquia is the most benefited region in compensation so far with 231,814 compensation to victims with resources of 1.5 trillion pesos”.

During the almost 8 years of implementation of Law 1448, the Victims Unit has provided economic compensation to 965,383 survivors of armed conflict in Colombia until February of this year, with an investment of 5.97 trillion pesos.

In total, the entity has allocated 11 trillion pesos in resources, of which 2.6 trillion pesos in Antioquia for individual reparation, humanitarian and emergency aid, social and community infrastructure projects, psychosocial care for emotional recovery and economic compensation.
