With a religious ceremony and words of Palenqueras communities, located in the municipality of Mahates, Bolívar, the Victims Unit delivered the memory garden, in compliance with and closing of a satisfaction measure, established in the Comprehensive Collective Reparation Plan of San Basilio de Palenque – La Bonga.
“There are 29 actions among which is the delivery of the memory garden, where the 18 victims of homicide and forced disappearance are remembered”, said the territorial director of the Victims Unit in Bolívar and San Andrés, Miledy Galeano Paz.
For these communities, the space reserved to honor their victims is not only part of a process of construction of historical memory, but also pays tribute to the people who lost their lives due to the conflict in a place that will transcend to all generations, as part of their repair.
“It is important that young people and future generations know what happened in the territory of San Basilio de Palenque”, said Yaneth Santana Herazo, member of the support group of the subject of collective reparation and representative of the La Bonga communities.
“The memory garden is a sacred space for us, a space to remember them every day and for them to really rest in peace”, said Abel Hernández, president of Ma Kankamaná community council from San Basilio de Palenque.
The plaque located in the garden was written in Palenque language as part of the ancestral roots of these communities, in which they say goodbye to their loved ones and cry out for justice with the text: “The armed conflict took away their dreams and hopes. We demand truth and no repetition. They are still alive in our hearts. Free souls fly high”.
Compliance actions continue for this subject of reparation with the delivery of a collective good, framed in the strengthening of productive projects, recovery of customs and support to ancestral figures, before the end of the 2020 term.
