Marsella, Risaralda, will complete its characterization of victims in June

The Victims Unit was present during the Transitional Justice Committee in the municipality of Marsella, with the objective of monitoring compliance with the public policy of victims in the territory.

During the development of the Territorial Committee of Transitional Justice in the municipality of Marsella, Risaralda, it was agreed that during the next Thursday, June 6 and Friday, June 7, the day of characterization for the victim indigenous population residing in Suratena and Alto Mira Shelters will be completed, while Saturday 8 will be held a day in the urban area of ​​Marsella, in order to complete a procedure that began the previous year, which already have 422 victims characterized that make up 100 family nuclei.

“One of the most important things of this Committee is that the dates were determined in which the characterization of the municipality will be carried out, a process that has already begun, but that we need to complete to know the reality of victims who live in Marsella and in this way we can address our institutional offer for all of them”, explained Germán Darío Gómez, mayor of the municipality.

In the same way, the contingency plan for the town was approved and, in the next few days, a simulation will be scheduled with officials of the Victims Unit, in order to be prepared in prevention and emergency attention in an eventual massive displacement.

In compliance with the meeting, it was also established that on Saturday, June 29, the accountability of the Municipal Table of Victim Participation will be fulfilled, in which a detailed report of actions undertaken by the table in favor of the victim population of the territory will be presented.

During the Transitional Justice Committee, María Isabel García, representative of the Table before the Committee, also expressed the community’s concern about “the high number of unidentified corpses (372)”, which are located in the local cemetery. “The idea is that with the orientation of the Historical Memory Center we can do something. In that sense, we were in Bogotá in a meeting with them and they were committed to the commemoration of the International Day of Victims of Forced Disappearance in Marsella, on August 30, we hope that these victims will finally be able to rest in peace, for peace of their families”, she said.

Finally in the development of the Committee and after the report of the police forces, the concept of security of the municipality was validated, presenting the optimal conditions to comply with the component of returns and relocations of victims in Marsella.
