Within the framework of the 29th anniversary celebration of the organizational life of Indigenous People’s Unit Awá (Unipa), the first PAV Victim Care Point was opened, with an ethical differential approach in the country, which seeks to provide guidance, accompaniment and follow-up on the activities that the victims require, in the exercise of their rights to truth, justice and integral reparation, according to the provisions of Law 1448 of 2011.
Approximately 6,000 victims identified in the 23 reservations associated with Unipa, among them: Awá Telembi area, Awá Camaguari, Awá de Magui, Awá Cuascuabi Paldubi, Chagui, Chimbuza, Vegas, and San Antonio, will benefit from better care without having to leave the area, thanks to the new point of attention. In addition, this space will have a bilingual counselor (Spanish and awapit), which will strengthen and facilitate the direct relationship with the victims.
The victims of the Awá people showed their satisfaction with the opening of new headquarters. Rider Pay Nastacuás, senior advisor of the National Indigenous Unit of Awa People, said: “This is the opportunity for many victims of our community to be served, since they have not been able to do so for many years. the authorities and the Unit and thus together grow”.
The territorial director in Nariño, William Pinzón, stated that “the delivery of this Point of Attention is the sign of the commitment on the part of Unit with the integral reparation of Awá people. For this reason, we will continue working on the processes of returns and relocations, previous manifestation of the voluntariness by the indigenous authorities. This delivery is the symbol that you are not alone, that as Unit we will now be closer to provide a quality service. This demonstrates the national and regional interest of working hand in hand with the victims”, he concluded.
