A peace-building project in Colombia, through support for durable solutions for victims of forced displacement in informal settlements and which materialized in the construction of the Community House in La Victoria 2 neighborhood, in the Choco capital, was visited by an evaluation team of the Korean Cooperation Agency (KOICA), the UN refugee agency (UNHCR) and the Victims Unit.
For the project, KOICA contributed five million dollars to mitigate the impact of forced displacement due to the armed conflict and five municipalities in Colombia benefited from this project: Mocoa, Arauca, Cúcuta, Turbo and Quibdó. In the latter, the line that was developed within the project sought community empowerment, for this reason, the Community Action Board of the neighborhood La Victoria 2 is the administrator of the community house for the benefit of the inhabitants of this sector of the city.
For its part, UNHCR was the operator of the project that benefits 443 households in Quibdó, 7,223 people.
In this regard, the International Cooperation Coordinator of the Victims Unit, Nicolás Fernández de Soto, said: “We thank you for all the support to KOICA, for your support all these years in the project, for the initiative that has been forged with UNHCR and that starts with the objective of rebuilding the social fabric based on the settlement of people in different places far from their customs and traditions”.
Local integration alternatives for victims of forced displacement have been the focus of this alliance that has been materializing in Quibdó and that strengthens and consolidates peace in this territory.
