Collective reparation processes advance with Afro-Colombian communities Badillo and Guacochito

Despite the pandemic, these community councils of Valledupar (Cesar) were able to meet virtually and are moving along the route.

The Afro-Colombian communities of Badillo and Guacochito each validated the damage characterization document, which will allow the Victims Unit to advance on the route of collective reparation.

Despite the difficulties that arose due to the pandemic, the Unit initiated a dialogue with the Ministry of the Interior, guarantor of prior consultation, to continue with the processes of the Afro communities virtually at the express request of the same.

As a result, after a dialogue of several months, the validation of the document characterizing the damage of the black communities of Badillo and Guacochito, located in the jurisdiction of the municipality of Valledupar (Cesar), was carried out.

This Monday, the Badillo community validates the damage characterization document, to continue with the process of the collective Reparation Route, virtually so as not to have delays in its process.

With this validation, 238 families who have suffered the impact of armed conflict that affected them in the late 1990s and early 2000s will be able to benefit, generating damage throughout the community. With the validation of the characterization of the damage, the formulation of a Collective Repair Plan that seeks to comprehensively repair the Badillo community begins.

“The most important thing in this process is to be able to continue it despite the health emergency and thanks to the express request of the community of the José Prudencio Padilla community council”, said Luz Patricia Correa, director of Ethnic Affairs of the Unit.

For its part, on August 28, the Guacochito community validated the document. By continuing with the process, 200 families from the Arcilla, Cardona and Tuna community council benefit.

The Victims Unit has 74 subjects of collective reparation prioritized in 2020, belonging to black, Afro-Colombian, Raizal and Palenquera communities between the Directorate of Ethnic Affairs and the Subdirectorate of Collective Reparation.
