In the two victim assistance centers that will be built in Bolivar department in 2019, a little over 180,000 victims will be treated annually.
The announcement was made by Ramón Rodríguez Andrade, director of Victims Unit, during the event called ‘Table for Protection of Life – Monitoring of Early Warning 026 of 2018’, held this Thursday in the municipality of El Carmen de Bolívar
During the meeting, convened by the Attorney General’s Office and the Ombudsman, Rodríguez Andrade said that “for the construction of the two centers of attention (one in Cartagena and one in El Carmen de Bolívar), the modality of co-financing between the Unit and the Government of Bolívar ” will be used.
In each of those two spaces of attention that will be built “we aspire to serve about 300 people daily, for approximately each month attend 15,000, which would bring us about 180,000 people a year,” added Rodriguez Andrade.
Table for the Protection of Life
The event, called “Mesa para la Protección de la Vida – Monitoring of Early Warning 026 of 2018′, aimed to generate a direct dialogue between social leaders and human rights defenders with various state entities, to establish commitments that strengthen their protection, and that local leaders and state entities effectively articulate the protection policy, with a territorial and differential dimension, contributing to a real political will to protect them and stop this threat.
In addition to the social leaders and human rights defenders of region present at the event, the Nation General Attorney, Fernando Carrillo Flórez; the Ombudsman Carlos Alfonso Negret; the president of Commission for the Clarification of Truth, Francisco de Roux; the director of Unit for Victims, Ramón Rodríguez; the representative of United Nations High Commissioner in Colombia, Alberto Brunori, as well as regional and local authorities.
About the event, Soraya Bayuelo, leader of Montes de María, victim of conflict and National Peace Prize, said that “I believe that this meeting was very important, since actions are articulated among all State entities to protect life and integrity of social leaders. It is also a space to dialogue and listen to the communities affected by conflict “.
On December 31, 2018, El Carmen de Bolívar recorded a total of 68,282 victims who have declared themselves as such, while in the entire department of Bolívar the figure rises to 503,592.
