Ramón Rodríguez Andrade, director of Victims Unit, accompanied the day in which tribute was paid to the victims of the attack on November 1, 1998, through cultural, sports and symbolic activities.
During the commemoration a conversation was set up in which the delegates of the National Government listened to the concerns of victims and reviewed the state actions that will be implemented to attend and repair the surviving population of armed conflict.
“Tell them that we are here, that we are accompanying them, that in every task we do and, in each space, we are looking for what the President has always said: Build a country,” said Rodríguez Andrade during his visit to the territory.
Mónica Miranda, coordinator of Departmental Board of Victims of Vaupés, referred to the importance of the entities and the director of Victims Unit knowing the territory and approaching the participation tables.
“It was very important that Ramón has come and that we have been able to meet him and thank him because we were able to review some issues that are of interest to the victim population where we had clear answers and that is fundamental for us,” said Miranda.
The aim of the cultural and sports activities was to raise a message of reconciliation and peace in the territory, and they were led by the entities that make up the National System of Comprehensive Care and Reparation for Victims in the department of Vaupés.
As a symbolic act, the installation of a monument was made in the park of the municipality called “Peace Builders”, the book “Mitú, the night of the jaguars” was also presented and a photo gallery was exhibited. In addition, the community had the screening of a documentary and the harmonization of the symphonic band of the National Police, which contributed to the dignity of the victims.
The territorial director for Eastern Meta and Llanos, Carlos Arturo Pardo, said that this event is a measure of satisfaction for Mitu in the context of its comprehensive reparation process and seeks to somehow be corrected the pain suffered 20 years.
