The initiative of the Victims Unit proposes to prevent conduct or malicious activities of officials and citizens who participate directly or indirectly, in the processes of attention and reparation of all citizens who need it.
According to Claudia Aristizábal, head of the Fraud Protection Group of Victims Unit, what emphasizes the strategy is that no victim in the country needs intermediaries for their attention in the entity; that all procedures are free and that they must always provide true information, so as not to incur in criminal offenses or disciplinary and administrative faults.
“We must tell the victims that all the procedures are free, that they do not require intermediaries, that they directly process the requirements and the institutional offer for them and that they do not go to third parties who are charging them large amounts of money for allegedly, help them obtain these benefits, “explained the official.
Aristizábal also explained that the prevention that was activated from the Victims Unit, aims for all state officials to handle with reserve and discretion the information that is available to them.
“We are telling the officials not only those of the Victims’ Unit but also all the state officials who should not collaborate and should not take the information and turn it over to unscrupulous people who deceive our real victims, because that has implications criminals for the sale of information to these unscrupulous people who deceive our real victims”, he noted.
According to Aristizábal, another essential aspect of the anti-fraud strategy is that the victims and the population are told to tell the truth. “Unfortunately, there are many people who pose as victims when they are not, so we tell them that they always have to tell the truth, because posing as victims is a crime. We already have people condemned to pose as real victims, then there, we are also protecting the real victims and their heritage”, he reaffirmed.
